Evidence based practices
Within Enrich, Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) prioritises a person-centred approach aimed at improving the individual's quality of life and fostering choice. It encompasses strategies to reduce the adverse effects of challenging behaviours while emphasising the person's well-being.
PBS has emerged as the preferred approach to behaviour support, both nationally and internationally. It originates from the disability rights movement and is guided by principles of person-centred practice, aiming to uphold and champion an individual's human rights.
PBS concentrates on enhancing quality of life through systemic changes such as environmental changes and educational strategies. It is founded on person-centred values, and evidence-based approaches.
The practitioner will assess and create a Behaviour Support Plan, which will involve various elements such as improving the physical environment, communication methods, managing motivations, and teaching new behaviours that are more functional. These plans are developed collaboratively with key stakeholders like allied health professionals, family members, guardians, education, and support staff.
